Ilves ja Tammelan Stadion on valittu mukaan kansainväliseen CUES-projektiin (Consumers Understanding of Eating Sustainably) yhdessä espanjalaisen Fundacion Real Betis Balompién ja englantilaisen Sheffield United Community Foundationin kanssa. Projektia koordinoi Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Projekti on käynnissä vuoden 2027 loppuun asti.

Ilves and Tammela Stadium join the international CUES project together with Real Betis and Sheffield United
Ilves and Tammela Stadium have been selected to participate in the International CUES (Consumers Understanding of Eating Sustainably) project, coordinated by Erasmus University Rotterdam, together with Fundacion Real Betis Balompié of Spain and the Sheffield United Community Foundation of England.
The aim of the project is to promote healthier and more sustainable food choices, which focuses on the strong connection between football clubs and their local communities.
In the CUES project, football clubs are seen as significant influencers who can reach thousands of people both at match events and in digital channels.
The project is an example of what kind of opportunities there are to develop international club cooperation in Europe. Cooperation with respected European clubs Real Betis and Sheffield United offers interesting opportunities both in terms of the content of the project and more general club cooperation.
– Our strategic goal has been to actively strive towards stronger European club cooperation also off the pitch. It’s great that we were able to make that work a success right away in the form of the CUES project. The project focuses on an important issue, healthy food, and how we can bring new perspectives to the match event and our club community in this regard. At the same time, this is a great opportunity to establish partnerships with top European clubs and to raise Ilves’s international profile, says Olli Vakkala from Ilves.
As part of the project, Ilves will introduce new options to the matchday food offering, including berries and other local delicacies in a traditional market-style setting. The club will also provide its community with new ways to benefit from locally produced farm products. Further measures will be communicated as the project progresses.

Healthy food as part of the match experience
The collaboration is based on the fact that sports and football are significant health-promoting activities themselves, and the aim would also be to introduce new, healthy, local and environmentally friendly food alternatives to sports events. Ilves, Real Betis and Sheffield United are each designing pilot interventions that suit their own operating environments exactly where people come together: football stadiums and club communities. Experiences of the implementations will be shared between the clubs and with the project’s research and development partners Erasmus University Rotterdam (the Netherlands) and ICLEI Europe (Germany).
– Our collaboration with the community-rooted football club Ilves Tampere is truly inspiring and central to our ambition in the CUES project. Ilves shows that football clubs are far more than sports organisations — they are trusted community leaders capable of driving meaningful sustainability transitions, as demonstrated by their inspiring partnership with a local community-supported agriculture initiative that reconnects citizens with regional food systems. At ICLEI, we are proud to work together in CUES and excited to continue building this impactful collaboration, says Vivien Franck, Senior Expert – ICLEI Europe.
The goal of the CUES project is to create new kinds of opportunities through football that benefit both people’s healthy eating habits, the environment and local producers.
– In CUES, we aim to enable a ‘Triple Change’ in food community, the food value chain, and food policy to make sustainable eating both desirable and trustworthy for citizens. Partnerships with community-rooted organizations like Ilves Tampere football club allow us to leverage football’s extensive social reach and cultural influence to embed sustainable food messages directly into people’s everyday social environments. This collaboration empowers fans and local communities to understand, value and adopt sustainable food choices, says Yijing Wang, CUES Scientific Coordinator & Full Professor and Chair of Strategic Communication – Erasmus University Rotterdam.
The project is ongoing until the end of 2027.
